Adaptations – Metro Gallery, New York City 2012
The more I open myself up to everything around me the more I lose myself. Things seem new as if I’d never seen them before.
When I buy a pineapple for lunch, after I eat it I’ll forget what it is and only see the rough segmented rind. I want to find out what it is so I put some pieces together with a grinding wheel at one end. My aim is to make it come alive. It looks like a caterpillar that wants to fly so I give it some wings, one enclosing a stone that can also be used to store eggs for its offspring. Now it seems to have a life of it’s own. It no longer needs me. All the divergent elements have adapted to each other to form a whole. It has entered into my consciousness and will help lead the way to the next metamorphosis.
